Artist Love: Pearl J. Dick

Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1977, multidisciplinary artist Pearl J. Dick creates vibrant and only slightly abstract sculpture, painting, and installations. I'm obsessed with her tone on tone red painting (see below) and can imagine a grouping of the glass heads on a white shelving unit. Pearl says of her work (and I love this quote):

My main concern is to point out and celebrate the intricacies of the connections we share. The sculpted glass heads do not depict a single moment in time, but represent a period of involvement with another soul. When the heads are mashed together while molten, they fuse, one becoming indelibly part of the other in much the same way that aspects of our individuality get melded when we come together in our relationships. It is no coincidence that when we spend quality time with another, we refer to it as "bonding".

I'll let you, dear readers, discuss those beautiful words. Scroll on for some examples from Pearl herself!
